The Egalitarian Traditions of Classical Ancient Africa

Leadership positions were not prohibited to African Women. Women were not prevented from holding prominent roles in Ancient societies such as in the Nile Valley. Political and social structure was inclusive of women. Women were regularly present and functioning at high levels in folklore and spiritual systems. Within spiritual systems such as those practiced in or near the Nile Valley, women were exclusively and actively engaging in specific rituals connected with the maintenance of the society. It was neccessary to have their presence in procedures associated with coronations as well as at the placement of physical architectural foundations.

The ntr (deity) Seshet who in the Nile Valley was the creatress of the writing system commonly known as Mdw Ntr. She also had a dual function as the “Lady of Numbers” of whom she had to be venerated before the construction of any building. She represented mathematical precision and clear communication. Auset also known as Auset was single handedly responsible for re-membering her husband and birthing her son in the first known immaculate conception (conceived, though before then Auset was a virgin). The folklore for Ancient Kemet is important to the reestablishing of the Nile Valley as an empire.
